Introduction to Tokenization

Tokenization is the process of substituting a sensitive data element (payment card information) with a non-sensitive equivalent (a unique, randomly generated code or “token”) during the payment process.  The token serves as an identifier that maps back to the payment card data through the Apriva tokenization system.  Tokens can be used for ad-hoc, recurring, or installment-based payments across many different industries.
