Add Credit Card Payments to Unattended Vending Solutions

Touchscreen Kiosks

An independent software vendor (ISV) has designed a touchscreen kiosk system that unites front-end ticket sales with back-end inventory and product management.  The ISV wants to integrate their Android-based solution with the Apriva Gateway™ for secure payment processing, so customers can purchase tickets with credit cards at unattended point-of-sale (POS) kiosks.

Challenge

The ISV wants to incorporate mobile payments into their kiosk solution, allowing customers to make real-time purchases and updating inventory records as ticket purchases occur. The kiosk system supports both wired and wireless connections, leveraging an application programming interface (API) between the individual kiosks and the Apriva Gateway to seamlessly handle credit card payment transactions.

The ISV desires PCI DSS compliance to improve system security, win customer trust for transactions, and potentially mitigate liability.

Finally, the ISV’s customers—retailers deploying the sales kiosks—will likely have existing banking relationships and merchant accounts that the ISV’s kiosk system must accommodate.  The ISV needs a payment gateway that connects to as many different processors as possible, allowing the ISV’s kiosk solutions to readily accommodate customers with existing financial relationships.

Solution

Apriva delivers Android and iOS software development kits (SDKs) to integrate unattended vending POS solutions with the Apriva Gateway to accept credit card payments. These SDKs allow the ISV’s developers to programmatically integrate payments into their existing vending solution, and present a consistent user experience within their original environment.

As part of Apriva Integration Services, Apriva provides:

  • Android and iOS SDKs
  • Web services and secure-socket (via XML) integration paths
  • Credentials to a gateway testing environment available 24/7
  • Validation and testing scripts
  • Partner Studio administration
  • Integration support via email and telephone

Further, the Apriva Gateway connects to some 35 certified processing platforms—including American Express, Chase Paymentech, Elavon, First Data, Global Payments, Heartland, Open Solutions, TPS/EVO, TSYS, Vantiv, and many more—allowing the ISV’s customers to process kiosk transactions through their existing banking and merchant accounts. This crucial capability makes it easier for the ISV’s target market to adopt the kiosk solution as an extension (rather than replacement or addition) to their existing payment processes.

Once the ISV has completed their integration and transaction testing, Apriva will certify their POS connectivity and grant access to the production gateway.

Results

Leverage Apriva’s multi-functional, technology-agnostic mobile commerce platform to accelerate time to market for unattended POS solutions.

Through these services, ISVs and other developers can write applications—in their chosen language—securely connecting to dozens of different payment processors supporting credit, debit, stored value, loyalty, EBT, and check transactions. As a result, ISVs can leverage one point of integration to deliver timely and relevant payment solutions to their vending markets.
